Voice Masterclass at the Pop-up Globe with Sylvia Rands

The Pop-up Globe is a rare performing space which demands all the skills of the actor to be fully awake. One of the most important elements in this Round 'O' which offers Shakespeare’s brilliance to the world, is perhaps the Voice - whose every nuance is able to be felt almost tangibly by the audience. The space demands both epic and intimate performance and the voice must be capable of the power and the subtlety to serve both the demands of the text and the space. Sylvia will teach her Four Elements Voice process and its application to performance as participants work with a short section of self-chosen monologue.

Sylvia Rands is one of NZ’s most experienced voice teachers and an actor of 35 years experience. She has toured the country with her solo Shakespeare show Such Sweet Thunder and performed on the stage of Shakespeare's Globe (London) when participating in Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ’s International Fellowship in 2009. She is the Pop-up Globe vocal coach for the 2017 season.

”Rands commands the stage utilising a wonderful array of vocal techniques to hold the audience spellbound as she swings from contemptuous irony to explosively timed humour and a brief moment of heartfelt anguish as the play reaches its electrifying climax.” - NZ Herald, Paul Simei-Barton The House of Bernarda Alba , 2010
